I just learned something really cool that I wanted to share with you.

It’s not something that I talk about very often … or ever, for that matter.

But this is an important topic … And it can help women and men who are suffering from a multitude of embarrassing physical issues to improve their physical wellness.

Did you know that the secret to improving your pelvic floor function has 2 parts to it?

First, you need to create a healthy amount of oxygen-rich nutrient-rich blood flow to the area. This creates the environment for change.

Just like when you water a plant and place it in the sun, you do that so the plant can flourish.  

In order to get this healthy blood flow to the fibers of our pelvic floor muscles and nerves, you have to melt the fascial (not facial) connective tissue that surrounds each muscle fiber. Once you release this fascia, the blood flow can reach the muscles and nerves and the brain can start to rewire itself to create more function and less frustration with this part of your body.

Second, you need to learn how to breathe properly using your main muscle of respiration, called the diaphragm. When your diaphragm is working properly, it helps to ‘wake up’ the muscles and nerves of the pelvic floor and you start to feel new life in that area.  Simply by breathing properly, you can improve your pelvic floor health.

So, I am not a pelvic floor expert, yet I know someone who is and I would love for you to meet her! 

Jana Danielson has been educating, inspiring and impacting women for almost 20 years in the areas of fitness and pelvic floor health.  I have learned a few things from her and thought this info was fascinating and could be helpful to so many women and men!

We are often taught to do Kegel exercises to improve our pelvic floor health.  In many cases a Kegel is taught as the feeling you get when you think of stopping (contract or make the muscles work) and starting (relaxing the muscles) the flow of urine.

The problem is that when you train your pelvic floor muscles this way as either ‘on’ phase or ‘off’ phase, you are missing the most critical piece of the puzzle, that is the ‘in-between’ phase or the lift and the lower. This is where the magic of rewiring these muscles to really function well happens. 

In a lot of cases, what ends up occurring for many women is that, if they already have a pelvic floor that is too tight, it creates more tension and more pelvic pain and more incontinence ensues.  Jana teaches that, “If you have a pelvic floor that is too loose, there is a good chance that you are not firing in a way that adds to the improvements that you are seeking.”
