The Top Two Everyday Energy Secrets That Will Not Cost You a Dime

In the second episode of Just Jana, Jana shares her top two game changers for increasing your energy levels without spending a dime. There is no need to purchase a magic supplement or self-help book to make you the most energetic, clear-headed, successful version of yourself. Instead, Jana dives into how knowing your body makes you empowered. By paying attention to your body’s natural energy systems, you can beat brain fog, bloating, lethargy, and even cellulite.

The first secret of unlocking increased energy every day is hydration. According to Jana, water is one of the most unrecognized superheroes on this planet—after moms, of course.

The most important thing to understand about hydration is that it functions like a pyramid. At the top is the brain, then our vital organs, and finally, the tissues that make up our bones, joints, fascia, and muscles.

When we drink a cup of water, the brain gets first priority. If you suffer from those dull, low-grade headaches that pop up a few times a week, instead of instinctively reaching for pain meds, understand that this usually results from a hydration issue. Without enough water, your brain feels like that neglected house plant in the corner of your living room.

Next in the line in the hydration station are your vital organs. If you’re struggling with digestion, elimination, or filtering issues, dehydration might be the culprit.

After your brain and organs have had their share of the water intake, the rest of your body’s tissues are the last to get hydrated. If you aren’t drinking enough water, they simply can’t function to their full capacity. Achy joints, sore muscles, and bloated tummies can often be solved by proper hydration.

Jana’s not-so-subtle message to all the mom bosses? Fill up your damn water bottle.

Of course, don’t go from drinking half a glass to four bottles a day. Your bladder will revolt… which is the last thing a mom needs. Instead, calculate your water needs using a tool like this Hydration Calculator and work it into your daily routine a little at a time. Make a promise to finish your water bottle before starting the day in order to wake up your thirst mechanism and get to the heart of your hydration all day long.

The second secret to bust fatigue and start flourishing is proper breathing. Feeling like you’re in a constant state of brain fog? It’s probably because you need to breathe.

From Marie Antoinette-style corsets to the 90s skin-tight jeans that you had to lay down to zip up to Instagram celebrities’ waist trainers, we live in an under-oxygenated society.

If you’ve ever noticed how a newborn baby’s body rises and falls with each breath, you’ve probably also noticed that your body no longer responds that way.

Try this breathing exercise: place one hand on your collarbone and one on your belly button. Inhale through your nose like you’re smelling a fresh-baked apple pie. Exhale through your mouth like you’re trying to fog up a mirror. Repeat this a few times.

If your top hand moves more than your bottom, you are, as Jana lovingly calls it, a fish breather. You’re essentially breathing through your neck instead of through your diaphragm, which could be the reason for chronic upper back pain, neck tension, and overall lethargy.

All this breathing may make you feel light-headed, like you just had an extra glass of wine, or make you yawn uncontrollably, like it’s the third act of your child’s class holiday talent show. That’s because your brain is not used to being oxygenated. As you work proper breathing techniques into your routine, your brain will thrive and your body will thank you.

Our challenge to you, mom bosses, is to increase your water intake, breathe diaphragmatically, and watch your energy levels soar.
